Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
Gentle Healing and Support
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a light and gentle hands-on technique used to help regulate the circulation of your cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Your CSF circulates throughout your entire brain, spine, and body. All of the bones in your head, face, spine, and sacrum have subtle, yet specific positions and ranges of motion. They are also lined by a thin tissue layer called the dura or meninges. These ranges of motion act as a pumping mechanism to help the CSF circulate, much like the heart does for your blood. Anytime the body experiences physical, chemical, energetic, and/or emotional stress, the dura creates “adhesions,” just like scar tissue on your skin. The adhesions limit the position and range of motion of the CSF, causing various symptoms in the body.
By using the light and gentle hand placements and motions, we use the bones as levers to release the adhesions, restoring better and proper CSF circulation, helping the body to come out of its stress response, and heal.
CST can be used for numerous body concerns, from head trauma, birth trauma, pregnancy and birth support, among many others. Dr. Kyle utilizes CST in many ways depending on the need of the person and finds it very useful as part of the Pleasantly Pregnant model.
